Parents Step Ahead (PSA) Virtual Conference Family Empowerment During Turbulent Times Money Sense Boot Camp Webinar Series

Parents Step Ahead (PSA), a 501 C-3 non-profit organization established in 2006, to remedy the growing lack of awareness in education, plaguing parents, especially within underserved communities, which put their children at a significant disadvantage in school and in life, in partnership with Comerica Bank and LATINA Style, Inc., held its virtual webinar “Family Empowerment During Turbulent Times” English session on March 4th and Spanish session on March 5th to assist parents navigate these turbulent times.

The conference included panels composed of teachers, parents, community and corporate leaders to share their expertise and advice to help ease the burden when it comes to the education of children.

Moderated by Larissa Rodriguez-Jarvis, PSA Board Chair & Sr. Sales Director, Frito-Lay, welcoming remarks were provided by Wendy Bridges, SVP, Executive Administration, Comerica Bank.

The first panel titled “Let’s Talk About Finances” brought together a panel of experts from Comerica Bank to discuss resources available for parents of soon-to-be college students, or current college students, the importance of maintaining a good credit score, programs available to assist families struggling to make their rent or mortgage payments, ways Comerica Bank is supporting financial solvency in local communities, to name a few.

 

Panelists included Roxana Canales, Banking Center Manager, AVP, Comerica Bank; Claudia Jimenez, Vice President, BCM II, Comerica Bank; and Brandon Jones, North Texas External Affairs Market Manager, Comerica Bank.

The second panel titled “Coming Together as a Community” addressed ways teachers are overcoming challenges maintaining student engagement in the virtual or in-person classroom, or even hybrid, how community and corporate leaders are leading and providing resources to support families in need.

Moderated by Larissa Rodriguez-Jarvis, panelists included Melanie Meeks, First Grade Teacher, Farine Elementary, IISD; Leticia McDoniel, Sr. Lecturer in Spanish, SMU; Rev. Dr. Edgar Bazan, Senior Pastor, New World United Methodist Church, Parent, and Rev. Flor Granillo, Pastor at Hispanic/Latino Ministry, First Methodist Sherman.

The Spanish session held on Friday, March 5th was moderated by Lupita Colmenero, Founder, PSA & COO, LATINA Style, Inc. Welcome remarks were provided by Monica Menzel, SVP, Divisional Finance Director, Comerica Bank.

The first panel titled “Let’s Talk About Finances” was moderated by Lupita Colmenero, Founder, PSA & COO, LATINA Style, Inc.; panelists included Baldemar Hernandez, Vice President, Business Relationship Banker, Comerica Bank; Claudia Jimenez, Vice President, BCM II, Comerica Bank; and Fredy Salguero, Community Affairs Coordinator, Comerica Bank.

The second panel titled “Coming Together as a Community”  included panelists Karen Gonzalez, Bilingual Teacher, Dallas ISD; Leticia McDoniel, Sr. Lecturer in Spanish, SMU; Rev. Dr. Edgar Bazan, Senior Pastor, New World United Methodist Church, Parent; and Rev. Flor Granillo, Pastor at Hispanic/Latino Ministry, First Methodist Sherman.
