Sweet Companion
By Joanna Donjuan

Hi, y’all! My name is Minnie. I often go by Minnie Winnie, Chiquis, or Princess Minnie (that one is my favorite). My family changes nicknames daily but you can just call me Minnie. I am a two-year-old Shih Tzu that loves to go on evening walks and snack on nice crunchy carrots. Before I go on about my fabulous self and my daily routine let me introduce you to my family.

I stumbled across my parents in the summer of 2020. I was still a small baby when my dad’s friend shared with him that he was looking for homes to place me and my biological siblings. It was love at first sight for both of us. I came at a time when big transitions in their life were happening. My big sis had just moved away to finish college and mom was very upset and felt lonely, it didn’t help that COVID was affecting everyone’s life. My mom needed a sweet and brave companion, I was perfect for that. I became very comfortable with my mom quickly. She would feed me good food, play with me, and make sure I was ok. We took care of each other, and I made sure her days were a little brighter and full of entertainment. Ever since I haven’t stopped barking at the smallest sound that comes through the front door. I’m a bit of a drama queen what can I say, but who doesn’t like a little drama in their life? My family consists of my mom, dad, and my big sis. I spend most of my day with my mom, and I love it. What I don’t love is when she uses our precious mommy and Minnie time to give me baths, not my favorite.

Now let’s get back to me. As I said, I enjoy my evening walks, especially when we go to the park for a walk. I like smelling the trees and fresh air. I also like going to the park because I know that right after my big sis will go to Starbucks to order her strawberry refresher and I get a pup cup, my favorite. Texas heat is no joke, so we haven’t been to the park a lot recently which makes me sad, but I understand sometimes it’s not the best weather for us dogs to be out in for a long time. Aside from my walks, another favorite thing of mine is taking naps. I love to snuggle with my mom for a bit when she comes home from work. After our nap, I usually follow my mom around with my toys until she pays attention to me. Sometimes she has a lot of things to do around the house, so she turns on Paw Patrol for me to keep me entertained. I love my mom and I love spending all day every day with her, we make awesome memories together. I’ll always be her sweet and brave companion.
