LATINA Style Business Series in San Diego, CA, a Success!

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, LATINA Style, Inc. hosted its LATINA Style Business Series themed “The Road to Recovery” at the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center at San Diego State University.
The one-day program allowed attendees to engage with experts on learning about business ownership, self-care, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, attendees were presented with career development seminars to benefit Latina professionals and entrepreneurs. In addition, participants partook in several workshops aimed at addressing the strains placed by the pandemic.
Welcoming remarks were provided by Mistress of Ceremonies Ana Christina Sanchez, Meteorologist, NBC Telemundo 20. The morning’s keynote speaker was Dr. Adela de la Torre, President, San Diego State University. Sponsor remarks were provided by Desi Ulloa, Executive Director, Program Director-Community Impact Team, JPMorgan Chase, and Lory Burgos, Sr. Consultant Enterprise Diverse Marketing, Nationwide.
The first session of the day, “Financial Recovery & Maximizing Your Network and Resources,” delved into options to get businesses back on track and the best marketing resources, networking tools, and opportunities to help businesses grow. Facilitated by Audrey McKinley, President, Auto Network Consulting, speakers included Christella Sanchez, Sr. Stakeholder Liaison, Internal Revenue Service; Rosalinda Delgado, Business Development Manager, Accessity; Peter Jackson, Vice President, Sr. Business Consultant, JPMorgan Chase, and Adriana Brunner, Business Development Manager, MyPoint Credit Union.
The second session, “Prioritizing Self-Care,” was facilitated by Lory Burgos, Senior Consultant, Enterprise Diverse Marketing, Nationwide. Speakers included Diana Salgado, Psychotherapist; Dalia Zavala, Licensed Psychologist, MA-Gestalt Therapy – Independent Practitioner; and Yesica Rodriguez- Founder/ Yoga Instructor, YesYogaLove.
The third session, “Entrepreneurs Spotlight: Overcoming Obstacles,” included successful Latina entrepreneurs. Each discussed their strategies for success. Moderated by Audrey McKinley, President, Auto Network Consulting, speakers included Fanny Miller, Founder/CEO Latina & Associates, Inc.; Maria Templeton, Owner, Elemental Hair Spa, and Diana Osorio, Founder & Owner, Lacticups.
The 2022 Trailblazer Award was presented to Dr. Star “Estrella” Rivera-Lacey, Superintendent and President Palomar College. Star “Estrella” Rivera-Lacey, Ph.D., serves as the 11th Superintendent/President of the Palomar Community College District. Palomar College. She is the first Latina Superintendent/ President in the school’s 75-year history. Palomar College serves over 25,000 students and 1,600 employees. It has been a Hispanic Serving Institution since 2016. The district encompasses 2,555 square miles in North San Diego County, and operates Education Centers in Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, and Fallbrook. It offers more than 200 degrees and certificates with an annual budget of 582 million dollars.
The 2022 San Diego LATINA Style Entrepreneur of the Year award was presented to Fanny Miller, Founder / CEO, Latina & Associates, Inc. LATINA Style “Entrepreneur of the Year” award honors leading entrepreneurs of all fields. Award finalists are nominated by community partners and are selected based on their vision, leadership, financial success, community service, and visibility as role models for young women.
“I have been an entrepreneur for the past 34 years, with many challenges and rewards,” shares Miller. “Hispanic publishing, like any other business, is not easy; our commitment to staying true to our readers has been our success.”
Community and national organizations have recognized Miller numerous times for her Hispanic publishing and business achievement. Some of Miller’s recognitions include: 10 Women to Watch Publishing Leaders- Editor & Publishers, July 2021; 26 Phenomenal Women- In Business (Union-Tribune Sept. 2021); NFL-Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award; Hispanic Marketing Lifetime Achievement Award —San Diego AD Club; Hispanic Heritage Award-Business – Assemblymember Shirley N. Weber; Women Who Mean Business – San Diego Business Journal; Entrepreneur of the Year – San Diego Magazine; to name a few.
