Publisher’s Message

As we close this edition of the magazine, there are many changes in store for our nation, especially how our nation will be governed in the next few years as new faces have been elected. The world is watching, and so are we. An update that took me by surprise was the announcement of Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard not running for reelection next year. The first Latina becoming the first Mexican American woman elected to the U.S. Congress is retiring after three decades of serving. It is a great loss when the most influential Latina in Congress retires. We are grateful for her support as she graced our first cover, and we thank her for being a part of our journey. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

In this edition of LATINA Style, we are proud to showcase extraordinary Latinas working in the finance and banking sectors. One of the Latinas to watch is Carolina Jannicelli, Managing Director and Head of Community Impact at JPMorgan Chase & Co. Her journey to success in the finance world is a must read. You will also meet seven Latinas expanding the range of financial services available to Hispanics in the United States, including investments, wealth management, lending, financial stability, and more. Among these Latinas are Ana Maria Mitchell, Vice President, Customer Engagement Network at American Express; Celinda Farias Appleby, Director of Global Talent Attraction at Visa; Ileana Musa, Managing Director, Head of International Banking and Lending at Morgan Stanley U.S. Banks; Jennifer Lopez, VP of Product Development, Head of the Innovation Lab + Merchant Data Platforms at Capital One; Karelis Barrios, Global Head of Loans Operations at Citi Bank; Roxana Borges, Senior Vice President, Small Business East Division Performance Executive at Bank of America and Sara Vargas, Executive Vice President/Audit Management Executive, Internal Audit at Wells Fargo & Company. They are an inspiration to us.

We are also delighted to bring you a profile of Latina leaders paving the way as board members in corporate America. They are role models all over the nation, even the world, as they bring their expertise, ideas and passion to corporate boards.

On a final note, we look forward to seeing many of you in Columbus, OH, when the LATINA Style Business Series visits your town on December 9th. See you there!
